Somewhere Along the Way
COPYRIGHT 2004 BY ELIZABETH FUENTES
Trying to adapt to her new life, Widow Elyse Leiber, a quirky, do-gooder, wants nothing to do with men, particularly egotistical, unscrupulous, business men.  As she fends off Tony Roca’s advances--a charismatic Cuban Casanova, too young for the likes of her--she goes head to head with his antagonizing older brother.  Nathan Roca, aka Mr. Freeze, a serious, stuffed shirt, South Florida land developer, is everything she loathes.  Though he finds her feistiness exasperating, he also finds her captivating.

Tony’s rejection, Nathan’s bitterness, and Elyse’s insecurities charge the passionate, hot tempered, storyline of 'Somewhere Along the Way' sufficiently.  Throw in Elyse’s unusual relationship with her friend and sometime boss, movie producer Scott Larson--who has other plans for her life--and things start bubbling over.

It's Never My Day

In 'It’s Never My Day', life’s harsh realities become apparent to Elora Valle at an early age. Scarred by pain and disappointment, Elora is dejected and resentful. A high school dropout, armed with only her wit, she works to support the only person who matters, her mother. She long ago realized happiness was for beauty queens with perfect smiles and manageable hair.

Reginald Chandler Owens 5th, a distinguished military hero and head of a secret special forces division, thought nothing of life. Wounded on a suicide mission, the grotesque scar on his face became his medal of honor. Except for his world, all else is inconsequential, until he meets the sorrowful woman. Numb and soulless, he is forever changed by her. Varied social differences fired by Elora’s streetwise attitude unleash a roller coaster of emotions.

Living a life less than ordinary, Hemi had long since given up on humanity.  Consumed by anger and plagued by misfortune, she saw anyone who wasn’t helping her people as self serving and greedy.  She longed only for a happier time, a time when her father could greet her with just a glance, and her mother not only loved her, but believed in her.  Her supernatural talent with cars was her families’ only means of support, but after an unfortunate accident, she finds her self questioning her ability to provide for them and her life choices.  Her situation leaves her at the mercy of the people she most despises, doctors.

Enio Travieso fought against enormous odds to become not only a doctor, but a world renowned surgeon.  He wanted nothing more than to help his people.  Upon returning to East L.A. he finds that he’s not always as welcomed as he thought he would be.  Withstanding humiliation and physical threats he convinces himself that he will not let Hemi’s stubborn pride keep her from getting the care and attention she needs.

An American Dream: My child is Gifted
BY ELIZABETH FISCHER
What is this countries obsession with having their child catergorized as gifted?  Is it just as much of a status symbol as the car you drive?

Using my 20 years experience in the public school sector, my time as a Gifted and Reading Teacher, and some painful parenting insight, I try to shed some light on this phenomenon.
